The time it was about The Truth About Alice

Posted June 27, 2014 by Stacee in Blog Challenge, Book Promo / 2 Comments

I was invited to be part of the Fierce Reads Street Team for one of the new titles.  In the email, we were told to respond with the books from the list of authors that we had already read.  At that time, I had read almost all of them and I was put on Team Alice for The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu!

As part of the street team, we were given a ten part challenge to span over a week.  However, since I don’t have a Tumblr account, I’m going to do all of mine in one post.  Before we get to those, let’s check out the book, shall we?

16068341Everyone has a lot to say about Alice Franklin, and it’s stopped mattering whether it’s true. The rumors started at a party when Alice supposedly had sex with two guys in one night. When school starts everyone almost forgets about Alice until one of those guys, super-popular Brandon, dies in a car wreck that was allegedly all Alice’s fault. Now the only friend she has is a boy who may be the only other person who knows the truth, but is too afraid to admit it.

Told from the perspectives of popular girl Elaine, football star Josh, former outcast Kelsie, and shy genius Kurt, we see how everyone has a motive to bring – and keep – Alice down.

Sounds good, right?

And now on to the challenges! {Please forgive my lack of pretties.  I am fail at photoshop.}

Favorite character

Probably Alice. I wish we would have gotten to see a bit more of her.  I also really liked Kurt, but that will be obvious with some of the other answers.  :D

Elaine quote

“The truth is, I wouldn’t blame Alice Franklin if she never talked to me or anyone else in this town again. There are some things, like your eighth grade boyfriend kissing some other girl at a middle school dance, that are easy to forgive. And there are some things that are just unforgivable.”

Kelsie quote

“I miss Alice Franklin. I guess I don’t deserve to. But I do.”

Character you want to date

I’m going to go with Kurt.  He’s smart and loyal and a reader.  That’s enough for me.

The Truth About Alice playlist

“Precious Things” by Tori Amos

“Disconnected” by Face to Face

“Shake it Out” by Florence + the Machine

Josh quote

“Sometimes I wonder if I hadn’t put the idea of her into Brandon’s head, everything that happened wouldn’t have happened.”

Alice fancast

Perhaps it’s just the name, but I instantly attached Ashley Greene to Alice.  And I thought that Kevin McHale would be perfect for Kurt.

Kurt quote

“Hadn’t she’d figured out by now that I really like her — her Alice? Not Fantasy Alice, but the living, breathing, talking, walking, actual Alice who holds her breath near cemeteries and eats grilled cheese sandwiches and has managed to survive complete and utter banishment from everyone she ever regarded as a friend and still come to school every day.”

Character you want for a BFF

Probably Kurt.  He’s the only seemingly decent person in the entire book.  Also, all of the girls are real bitches. I’m obviously not counting Alice.

Anything goes

The best quote of the entire book: ” There is one thing I’ve learned about people: they don’t get that mean and nasty overnight. It’s not human nature. If you give people enough time, eventually they’ll do the most heartbreaking stuff in the world.”

Huge thanks to Macmillan for the invite.  The Truth About Alice is out now.  Buy it at Indiebound, Barnes & Noble or The Book Depository.

Have you guys read the book? What are some of your answers to the challenges?

Yay! It was definitely an interesting take on how to tell a story. I hope you enjoy it! And yes, Tim Curry is the best.

      Thanks for reading and commenting.
