The time it was about Reading Rewind {8}

Hi guys! Welcome to another month of Reading Rewind.

RRewind

This month I knew exactly what I wanted to read.  I’ve been dying to reread The Sky is Everywhere for a while now, but just never got around to it.

1. When did you originally read the book and what did you rate it?

I first read The Sky is Everywhere in February of 2012 and gave it 5 stars. It’s also on my “all of the stars” and “all of the swoons” shelves.  At that time, my Goodreads usage was just to keep track of what I was reading, so there isn’t any sort of review.  Just a rating.

2. Why did you love it?

Jandy’s prose is some of the prettiest that you will ever read. It’s filled with poetry and snippets of conversations from the main character, Lennie, sprinkled through the book. Added bonus that Joe Fontaine and his eyelashes are also characters in the book.

3. After the re-read did your rating/feelings about it change? Why or why not?

I gave it 5 stars again and it would definitely stay on my all of the stars/swoons shelves.

This was another book that I was really nervous about rereading.  I purposely decided to read the UK version that is in the picture above.  The poetry and things that Lennie writes down are actually shown as pictures and it’s just so stunning.

This time around, I was mildly irritated with a few of Lennie’s choices.  I knew some of the heartbreak that was coming, but I was still able to root for her. I found myself wanting to quote all of the things and I definitely wanted to roll around in Jandy’s prose.  I can happily say that I am still painfully in love with this book and I can’t wait to read it again.

  1. Yes I read it in 2014 and I thought it was fabulous! You are right about Ms. Nelson’s prose. Just beautiful. Also, I am curious about this reading rewind. Is this something you put on? Can other bloggers do this on their blog? I have been wanting to reread some of my favorites but feel like I don’t have time due to reviewing new books for my blog. The Reading Rewind would be a perfect reason to reread some of my faves.

      I’m completely convinced that Jandy’s words are magic.

      The feature was something that another blogger and I came up with. When we started, we invited everyone to join in, but I don’t think anyone did. She’s stopped participated, but I love the idea, so I’ve been continuing to do it. You’re more than welcome to post! There are details here.

      I’ve since changed the banner, but feel free to use the one that’s in this post. And some sort of credit/link back would be appreciated.

      I hope you get a chance to reread some favorites!! I look forward to your post.

      Thanks for reading and commenting!!

  2. I didn’t realize the book had been out that long! It is on my second tier tbr. I might be able to get to it next year when I am doing my one ARC a month personal challenge. I love this feature. I might do it next year. :)
