Hi guys! Here we are for another round of Reading Rewind.
When it came to picking something to read, I knew what it was going to be, so there wasn’t a Twitter poll this month. I chose Die For Me by Amy Plum!
1. When did you originally read the book and what did you rate it?
I read it in April of 2012 and rated it 5 stars.
2. Why did you love it?
Apparently I was actually using GR at that time, so there’s a review.
Fantastic premise. I love the idea of the revenants, something unique in the midst of all of the angels, vampires and dystopian settings. Paris just seems to come alive on the page and I’m dying to visit even more.
Love love love Kate. And Vincent. And absolutely all of the characters. Vincent’s kindred were fun and flirty.
I’ll definitely be reading the sequel; however I’m not sure when. I hear there’s a wicked cliffhanger and I’m not too good with those…
3. After the re-read did your rating/feelings about it change? Why or why not?
I rated the re-read 5 stars.
At first, the story did remind me a bit of Twilight. Mostly the “this boy is so gorgeous and dangerous and I feel like something’s different or wrong with him, but there’s no way he could possibly be into me because I’m so plain and boring, so it won’t be a big deal to be friends with him, and hooray, he’s sort of stalking, so that makes it way easier” aspect. Thankfully, that didn’t last too long, because I loved Kate and Vincent and all of the other characters. I forgot how swoony Vincent is. I forgot how adorable Kate’s grandparents are. Yet, it was more enjoyable this time around because I knew what the overall outcome was and while I don’t remember every little detail, I was able to read into certain actions.
Paris absolutely comes to life in this book and I think a lot of that has to do with Amy living in the city. She describes everything so wonderfully, I could see the various places in my head. I mean, that doesn’t help with my absolute need to get to Paris, but the imagery is lovely.
It was a quick, enjoyable reread and I’m really contemplating continuing with the series because I want more from these characters and this story.
