The time it was about Girl Against the Universe {2}

I don’t think it’s a secret that I love Paula Stokes and her words.  Girl Against the Universe is one of my favorite books and it was one of my top books of 2015.  To celebrate GATU being released in paperback, Paula is doing a blog tour with 7 days of giveaways!

Before we get to today’s giveaway challenge, let’s check out the book!

Title: Girl Against the Universe
Author: Paula Stokes
Publisher: Harper Teen
Pub Date: May 17, 2016
Pages: 400
Find it: HarperCollins | Indiebound | B&N | Amazon | Goodreads

From the author of The Art of Lainey and Liars, Inc. comes a fresh, contemporary story about a girl coping with PTSD and the boy who wants to help her move on from the past. Perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen or Jenny Han.

Sixteen-year-old Maguire knows the universe is against her. No matter how many charms she buys off the internet or good luck rituals she performs each morning, horrible things happen when she’s around. Like that time the roller coaster jumped off its tracks. Or the time the house next door caught on fire. Or the time her brother, father, and uncle were all killed in a car crash–and Maguire walked away with barely a scratch.

Despite what her therapist tells her, Maguire thinks it’s best to hide out in her room, far away from anyone she might accidentally hurt. But then she meets Jordy, an aspiring tennis star who wants to help her break her unlucky streak. Maguire knows that the best thing she can do for him is to stay away, but it turns out staying away might be harder than she thought.

Sounds good, right?

And now here’s Paula!

Paula: Hi everyone! Girl Against the Universe releases in paperback on June 6, 2017 and I’m so excited about that I decided to do an entire blog tour of giveaways to celebrate! In the story, main character Maguire creates her own list of seven challenges to help her overcome her fears. This week I have seven challenges for you, and seven chances to win a shiny GATU paperback :D These contests are international, but due to shipping costs, US winners will receive signed copies sent by me and INT winners will receive their books from Wordery or The Book Depository, with signed bookplates mailed separately.

All contests will end on May 31, 2017. All winners will be contacted via Instagram, Twitter, or email as well as posted on my blog in early June. If you’re going to enter a Twitter or Instagram challenge, be sure your account is set to public during the contest period so I will be able to see your entries and contact you if you win.

Ready to start winning??

Challenge #1:

Bookstagram an image of one of your favorite novels about mental health. It can be MG, YA, or adult. You can take a picture of it yourself or download the cover image and use that. Your post must include these tags so I can find it: @pstokesbooks, #GirlAgainstTheUniverse, #SevenDaysSevenGiveaways, and #MentalHealthBooks. You must also tell, in a sentence or two, why you like the book. Here’s an example entry you can use as a model if you like:

Here’s #SilverLiningsPlaybook, one of my favorite #MentalHealthBooks for @pstokesbooks #GirlAgainstTheUniverse #SevenDaysSevenGiveaways challenge! I loved this story because it didn’t shy away from the painful realities of what it means to struggle with mental illness, but it also made me smile and left me feeling hopeful in the end. Go to to find out how you can also enter the challenge.

Got lots of mental health books you want to share? You can make up to three posts to enter up to three times by May 31, 2017. Questions? Put them in the comments :)

Paula Stokes is half writer, half RN, and totally thrilled to be part of the world of YA literature. She started out writing historical fiction under a pen name and is now branching out into other YA genres.

When she’s not working (rare), she’s kayaking, hiking, reading, or seeking out new adventures in faraway lands. She’s petted tigers, snuggled snakes, snorkeled with stingrays, and once enjoyed the suction-cuppy feel of a baby elephant’s trunk as it ate peanuts from her palm. Her future goals include diving with Great White sharks, learning Krav Maga, and writing a whole slew of novels, not necessarily in that order.

Huge thanks to Paula for the invite! Make sure you’re checking out Paula’s website, following her on Twitter and Instagram, liking her Facebook page, and adding her books to your Goodreads TBR.

And definitely check out the rest of the blog tour for other challenges and more ways to win!
