The time it was about Renegades

Posted October 31, 2017 by Stacee in Blog Tours and Hops / 8 Comments

I’ve been a fan of Marissa Meyer’s pretty much from the start. When I got the email for the Renegades blog tour, I think I responded in all caps…especially when it came to choosing between the Anarchists and the Renegades.  Guess which one I chose?

To celebrate Renegades, I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite villains in literature. But before we get to that, let’s check out the book!

Title: Renegades
Author: Marissa Meyer
Pages: 576
Pub Date: 11/7/17
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Find it: Fierce Reads | Indiebound | B&N | Amazon | Goodreads

From #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer, comes a high-stakes world of adventure, passion, danger, and betrayal.

Secret Identities.
Extraordinary Powers.
She wants vengeance. He wants justice.

The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone…except the villains they once overthrew.

Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

Sounds good, right?

So, this was supposed to be a top 10 list of villains, but once I started looking some up, I couldn’t stop.  The villain is always my favorite and it almost seems like the more unforgivable they are, the more I love them.

Instead of a list, I’m just going to highlight a few because I found some awesome character art and it pretty much changed how I was going to do everything… But I digress.

Favorite Villains in Literature

“The bodies in my floor all trusted someone. Now I walk on them to tea.” –A Darker Shade of Magic

1. Astrid and Athos Dane in A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab — Okay, so these two are straight up creepy, but I love their devotion to each other and their goal.  And extra points for matching outfits.  {Art by Foxyclock}

“You know, I really hate children.” –TOotP movie

2. Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling — I think what makes her extra awesome at being bad is that with all of the pink and kittens and that tinkling laugh and grandmotherly appearance, you’re expecting a hug instead of a pen that writes on the back of your hand.

“Fine,” he said with a weary shrug. “Make me your villain.”–Shadow and Bone

3. The Darkling in Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo — I’ll be totally honest: it’s been years since I read S&B and I don’t remember too much about why I loved the Darkling, only that I did. Plus, when I asked on Twitter who everyone’s favorite was, he was the majority winner.  Even when I asked again and explicitly said not to answer with the Darkling. :D {The photo links back to Leigh’s old blog? I fell down the rabbit hole looking for the creator to credit properly, but after 20 minutes, I had to stop}

“Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, so she destroyed them all.” –The Rose Society

4. Adelina Amouteru in The Young Elites by Marie Lu — I loved Adelina from the beginning of this series.  I loved seeing her struggle and succeed and love and hate and she’s absolutely horrible could not get enough of her.  Even though I loathed most of her actions, I was still rooting for her up until the very end. {Art by Marie}

“She drifted towards the bedroom, on her way to have a bath or take a nap or start a war.” –Blue Lily, Lily Blue

5. Piper Greenmantle in Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater — Piper was the answer that Bahnree gave when I asked the question about favorite villains.  I would have never thought of her, but she absolutely belongs here.  {Art found on Twitter}

  1. I totally picked Anarchists for my tour stop too!! I love the villains. I always hated Umbridge worse than Voldemort– at least Voldemort admits he’s all about the darkness, Umbridge sits there in her pink grandma clothes and gets high on power. Gross. I also love Piper from TRC. She’s so much more kick-ass than her husband!
