The time we got a pregame

The time we got a pregame

I saw John Sandford on the event schedule for Vroman’s one day while I was there for another event. I’ve been reading his books for years, I’ve read all of the Prey novels, so I knew that I’d be attending somehow. We got there way too early [surprise, surprise]. I was only the second person there, so I settled into “my bench” and started to wait. As usual, the crazy people found me right away. There was a woman who sat […]

The time all of the books had pretty covers

The time all of the books had pretty covers

So obviously, a book cover is important when marketing a book. I don’t remember there being such a big deal about cover pictures being released until I started reading YA books.  But, those marketing people are doing something right, because I’ve bought several books just from the cover alone… The upside to living in SoCal is that LA is really close and a lot of authors come through LA eventually. However, the idea of “eventually” is one that I’m not too familiar with, I […]

The time we drove to Arizona

The time we drove to Arizona

Hubs is a big fan of Dee Snider. I’ll admit, I did love his reality show Growing Up Twisted. The family dynamic is something I wasn’t expecting and it was hilarious. When I saw that Dee had written a book and was touring, I checked to see if he was coming to LA. I figured Book Soup was sure thing. However, Arizona was the closest he was scheduled get to us. I called Changing Hands bookstore and ordered books, putting […]

The time it was at a senior center

The time it was at a senior center

I’ve been wanting to meet Jay Asher since I read The Future of Us. I missed the signing the-bookstore-which-shall-not-be-named had with both authors and I refused to buy the signed copy from them, even if it appears that Carolyn Mackler doesn’t tour that often. Anyhoo. As soon as I saw Jay’s appearance at the Teen Book Fest, I knew I was going. I had planned to meet Alexandra Monir at the Santa Monica B&N, but Hubs was out of town […]

The time a stranger helped me out

The time a stranger helped me out

After devouring The Pledge in one night, I went to Kimberly’s website to see what else she had written and more importantly, when she was appearing.  I found out that she had written the Body Finder series, which had been on my TBR list.  Another set of books that I hadn’t read, but was really interested in.  From her website, I saw that she had one appearance listed… a bookstore in OR called Powell’s. I immediately went to their website […]

The time I saw a best selling author who can’t read

The time I saw a best selling author who can’t read

The Hubs is a huge Jason Ellis fan. We found his show on accident, driving home from a Kings of Leon show in AZ and from there, Hubs was a dedicated listener. Don’t get me wrong, I like Ellis, but I don’t get upset if it’s a “best of” week. Also, I don’t have satellite radio in Lucy, so I only listen when we’re in Hubs’ car. When Ellis talked about his book being released and the scheduled tour, we […]

The time Lucy broke down on the 405

The time Lucy broke down on the 405

We were on our way to the Barnes and Noble in Huntington Beach and I was driving my MINI Cooper, Lucy. Pretty much right after merging from the toll road to the 405N, an indicator light came on warning me that my engine was too hot. We started pulling of the freeway and thankfully we did because the warning light turned red and Lucy was officially overheating. Before I even had time to call the dealer, a CHP/roadside service guy […]
