The time there were bagpipes

The time there were bagpipes

Going to Maggie Stiefvater was always a sure thing. We ordered our tickets and were eagerly awaiting the event. I’ve met Maggie a few times at SDCC, but I’ve never heard her talk, so I was beyond excited. Keiko and I got to MG eaaaaarrrrrrly. We chatted with the lovely staff, grabbed our usual seats, and settled in to wait. The crowd started showing up around 11:30. People were buying books and milling around the store. The seats were put […]

The time it was a monthly recap {28}

The time it was a monthly recap {28}

You guys. It’s October and I have no idea where the year has gone.  It seems like I was just counting down to Hamilton and now I’m eagerly awaiting the three days of rain we get in SoCal and reading by the fire. As always, I digress. Settle in. Here’s the recap for September! Last month, I read a total of 22 books. {Click on the covers for my review on GR} Okay, so I DNF’d Empire of Storms and […]

The time it was about corn

The time it was about corn

Going to see Stephanie Perkins is always a sure thing.  She’s one of my favorite authors to see and just a lovely person all around. As soon as I found out that she would be in Oceanside for There’s Someone Inside Your House, it was on the calendar.  Especially since I’ve been hearing her talk about this book for so long, I was eager to hear her talk about it more in depth. Michelle and I got to the store […]

The time it was about adoration

The time it was about adoration

Seeing Marie Lu for Warcross was a sure thing and I forced Michelle to buy a ticket so she would come with me. I got down to the store earlier than normal and there was a local author meet and greet happening. I ended up going behind the counter and talking all things RuPaul’s Drag Race with a few of the MG employees while the event was finishing up. And then of course when Michelle showed up, there was some […]

The time it was about middle grade books

The time it was about middle grade books

Seeing Tamara Ireland Stone is always a given.  We have a standing date at her launch parties and I’ve driven up to San Francisco for all of them: Time Between Us, Time After Time, and Every Last Word.  This time around, Tamara told me that she would be coming to me. We got to the bookstore early enough for me to run amok, hug all of my favorite Mysterious Galaxy people, raid the back room, and peruse the YA section. […]

The time I was considered family

The time I was considered family

When Leigh’s launch party for Wonder Woman was announced, I was definitely interested. The only problem is that anything wristbanded at The Grove is sort of a mess for me. It takes a lot of work to get up there at the opening time. I was able to see Leigh at SDCC and we talked about the event. I told her that I was going to try to come up and she said she would save me a seat. Flash […]

The time it was about SDCC 2017

The time it was about SDCC 2017

I don’t think it’s a secret how much I love SDCC. I spend allllllll year waiting for it and things go in stages: pre-reg, open reg, press reg, and parking. Once all of those are completed, it’s only a few months that seem to take forever before the convention is actually here. Preview night We got downtown around 4pm, met up with Michelle and her husband, and carried on with our yearly preview night tradition: carne asada fries at Lolita’s. […]
